Congress-Bundestag Young Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX)

 

Description

The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) is jointly funded by the German Bundestag and the U.S. Congress, through the U.S Department of State. Primarily a cultural program, CBYX is designed to strengthen German-American ties by bringing together the younger generations of both countries. Individuals between the ages of 18 and 24 with well-defined career goals, work experience in their field, and strengths such as independence, flexibility, and diplomacy are encouraged to apply.

Each Year CBXY for Young Professionals sends a diverse group of Americans to Germany on a cultural immersion program that includes university study, an internship in a German-speaking work environment, and accommodation in a German home or student residence. the program is designed to provide participants first-hand experience in many aspects of German life. CDS International administered CBYX for Young Professionals since the program's inception in 1983.

 

Program Year

Late June: Orientation Seminar in Washington, D.C.

August - September: Two-month intensive German language course in Germany

October -January: one semester of study at a German university, university of applied sciences or vocational school

January: Midyear seminar in Cologne, Munich or Dresden

February-June: Five-month professional internship

June-July: Final seminars in Berlin and New York

 

Eligibility Requirements

 

Candidates for the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange must meet the following requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
  • Between 18 and 24 years of age at the begining of the program
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Clear career goals
  • Strong interest in German and international affairs.
  • Flexibility, independence, and diplomacy
  • Strong sense of American identity
