Multidisciplinary Experiential Study of International Nutrition in Peru

 

Description

Multidisciplinary Experiential Study of International Nutrition in Peru is a undergraduate summer course which covers diverse nutrition-related topics.

The objective of the program is to provide multidisciplinary hands-on learning opportunities for undergraduate students to comprehend the diverse determinants of dietary behavior and nutritional status of populations. The emphasis will be on field activities that will allow students to directly interact with Peruvian families as well as health care professionals. This course will be guided by faculty from ISU and scientists from the Instituto de Investigación Nutricional (IIN), located in Lima, Peru.

Eligibility

This program is open to students 18 years of age or older who have completed their sophomore year, have a major in life sciences or a demonstrated interest in nutrition, and have a GPA of at least 3.00. Although Spanish is not required, two years of college Spanish is highly recommended. 


Enrolment
is limited to 20 students. Selection will be based on academic qualifications, recommendations, and balance of disciplines.

Program Cost Description:

Program Fee - about $2,100 including in Lima: lodging, breakfast, program-sponsored field visits and activities, transportation to/from the institute; and administrative fees. This does not include airfare.
Other Fees - 1) $10 program application fee to the Ag Study Abroad office; 2) $105 study abroad administrative fee charged by Study Abroad Center; 3) tuition and fees for 4 credits during summer 2010. Out-of-state students will be charged at the in-state rate for the four credit hours. Out of Pocket Personal Cost - 1) passport which costs $100 if you don't already have one; 2)ISIC (International Student ID Card) which costs $25.50; 3) health insurance if you are not covered on your existing policy; and 4) immunizations (varies based on where you go). Of course, there are also other personal costs, such as meals and souvenirs, etc.

Program fee, tuition and fees, and the $105 administrative fee will be applied directly to students' Ubill . |

 

Specific Summer 2010 Scholarship

Students who participate in this program will receive the College of Ag and Life Sciences Summer Global Scholars scholarship. CALS students will get approximately $960 and Non-CALS students will get approximately $720. Students don't need to apply for this scholarship. It will be automatically applied to students' Ubills. You could be eligible for additional scholarships, so don't forget to check out other opportunities.
