"I know it’s so nerve wracking to make the initial leap, but I promise, you will have zero regrets."

How did you learn about your study abroad program?

I was interested in studying abroad in any capacity and had a dream to go to Ireland, so I came into the office to learn about what programs were available to me.

Have you travelled internationally before studying abroad?

No, going to Ireland was my first time out of the US!

Do you think your experience benefited you personally, professionally, or academically?

100%. This program, and the travel opportunities that came with it, introduced me to so many new cultures, environments, people, and history. Similarly, academically, I loved learning about agricultural policies, farming practices and techniques, and precision agriculture technologies that are different than those in the US.

What is your favorite class you took abroad and how is it different/similar to classes at Iowa State? Carly in London

My favorite class had to be my Precision Agriculture class. Similar to the other classes I took, it differed from classes at Iowa State because there was no homework, busy work, or exams until the final exam. However, my favorite part had to have been when 40% of my grade was based off of playing Farming Simulator, creating a report, and presenting what we found while playing.

Most memorable experience?

A few girls from Iowa State and myself went to Italy over Easter and after receiving directions and assistance from two priests we ran into, we were able to skip the line and get near-front row seats to Easter mass!

Did you experience any difficulties?

The first 24 hours were a little rough with adjusting to the time change and learning to navigate the new environment I was in. Besides that, everything went smoothly.

Did scholarships impact your decision to study abroad?

Yes, I was so fortunate to receive some scholarships and they were a huge help in paying for my experience.

What advice would you give to students interested in one of your programs or study abroad in general?

Go for it! Do your research, ask questions, apply for as many scholarships as you can, and take advantage of these amazing opportunities! I know it’s so nerve wracking to make the initial leap, but I promise, you will have zero regrets.
