Cathedrals, Castles, Culture and Cuisine-sustainable, Safe & Nutritious Food in France

With the growth of the world’s population and the increasing awareness that our natural resources are limited, development of sustainable systems to produce food is essential. Globally, the food industry is one of the largest industrial sectors, consumes tremendous amounts of energy and water, and can result in large quantities of waste; thus food has a critical impact on the environment, including greenhouse gas emissions and climate change.

Creating a School Garden: Service Learning in Uganda

This service learning program allows Iowa State University (ISU) students to work in Uganda, developing school gardens for elementary schools in the Kamuli District. This project is in partnership with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Sustainable Rural Livelihoods Program (CSRL), and Makerere University (MAK). Students will develop school gardens and work with teachers in grades 1-7 to deliver curricula in food and agriculture, integrated science, and nutrition while using the gardens.  Students will participate in one or more student-team projects that support t

Dean's Global Agriculture and Food Leadership Program to Rome

This integrated production and policy program will allow students to gain valuable knowledge, skills, and abilities with respect to global agricultural production, resources, and food issues. Students will combine coursework conducted at ISU and on-site work with professional teams in Rome to explore real-world projects focused on global food and agriculture issues. Students will work with United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) professionals. Students will present their findings to FAO at the end of the program.
